Thane mental hospital organises movie screening for patients

The Regional Mental Hospital at Thane has always ensured to take up various activities to pep up the mood of the inmates. This is a part of their healing therapy, as the hospital is located away from the chaos of the city life. They conduct various activities to keep the inmates active and also so that they feel a part of the society. Movies have always been a part of entertainment in everyone's life and so that the inmates also get such an opportunity and exposure, a movie screening was conducted.

On Wednesday, Neptue Foundation in association with Ferro Equip Foundation, organised the screening of a movie, Golmal 2. There were around 150 patients who watched the three-hour long movie along with the staff members. With an aim of creating an atmosphere of fun and frolic, the event was organised. The inmates laughed their hearts out at the jokes and watched the movie very attentively.

Deputy superintendent, Dr Guthe said, "Such entertaining events play a very crucial role in the recovery of the patients, as they too are a part of the society and in some cases, it also brings back their positive memories, which in turn helps to heal them. This is why, we make it a point to celebrate almost every function and keep the inmates engaged through various activities all through. They are also a part of the society and that is where they belong."

Meanwhile, Satyajeet Mohanty of the Neptune Group, said, "This was an endeavour to make the patients feel normal and a part of the society. It was an attempt to fight the stigma – 'once mentally ill, they will continue to be the same'. These patients need love, affection and attention and these are small gestures to show them that we care."
