Adding to the scorching heat, water cuts in Thane, Kalyan and Dombivli have made this summer more difficult to get through. Though there is no scarcity of water, the municipalities in these areas have undertaken water cuts since last week as a preventive measure.

The citizens of Thane had to face an extreme water shortage in the summer of 2016. Hence, once bitten twice shy, the civic administrations in the region have undertaken various measures to save water this year. Till the onset of monsoon there will be 14% water cut. "As per the instructions given by the irrigation department we have undertaken water cuts in Thane city since past one week. And this will continue till rainy season," says Ravindra Khadtale, Thane municipal corporation (TMC), water department.

Hence, every Wednesday there will be a water cut in Thane and in Mumbra while in Kalwa and Diva it would be on Fridays. "There is no scarcity of water since a year but we are doing this to preserve water till rainfall," adds Khadtale.

Similarly, Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) will not supply water to its residents for 24 hours once a week. "Due to the instructions from the irrigation department, water supply from KDMC's water purification plants at Barave, Netivali and Titwala will remain shut once a week," says an official from KDMC.

"Hence, from March 26 there will be water cuts every Tuesday in Kalyan, Dombivli and residents should take adequate care to store water during these cuts," advised Khadtale.
