A 35-year-old man was thrashed and his body, tied and weighed down by stones, was thrown into a creek. Police suspect honour killing as motive behind the killing since, along with two accused, the brother of the deceased's lover is also in police custody.

According to the Bhayander police, Ganesh Sudarshan, a resident of Murdha village, was allegedly killed by Rajesh Koli and his two accomplices Pappu Thorat and Rajendra. Ganesh had an alleged affair with Koli's sister, to which the family opposed. The duo tried to convince their family members but faced opposition. However, they continued their affair and decided to marry.

"When Ganesh was killed, we received a tip-off. Soon, we arrested the trio and they confessed to committing the crime. First, the accused assaulted Ganesh and then, tied his body with boulders and threw it in the creek's deeper side," said a Bhayander police official

"They thrashed him with swords and tried to destroy the evidence by disfiguring his face. We have arrested the trio under section 302 (murder), 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code and will produce them before Thane court," said Bhaskar Pukle, senior inspector, Bhayander police station.

"We are trying to search for the body, which may have been washed away due to heavy rains and tides," said Pukle.
