Nearly 1,000 residents participated in a shobha yatra at Thakur village in Kandivli (East) on Sunday. The shobha yatra was a two-kilometer walk to a gaushala situated near the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), where Bhagvad Gita sermons will be held for the week.

"We held a shobha yatra to inaugurate the Bhagvad Katha and were very overwhelmed when nearly 1,000 residents of Thakur village participated in it. We provided nearly 700 women Kalash for the yatra. We also saw great participation from various social organisations of Thakur village," said Dinesh Kanodia, committee member of the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha Gyanyagya Samiti.

"We are trying to preserve this gaushala, which is on a land of nearly 1,700 sq yd and houses 21 cows and a Shiv Mandir. We decided to organise a Bhagvad Katha there. Acharya Shyamji Maharaj from Nalasopara will be delivering the sermon at the Tarkeshwar Mandir Gaushala and we are hoping that many people will attend and help us spread the word," explained Kanodia.

SP Goel is the Mukhya Yajman for the Katha. The sermons will be conducted from 4pm to 7 pm in the evening and will also be accompanied by small enactments of scenes from Bhagvad Gita, like the birth of Krishna, Sudama's story etc., and will continue till November 16.
