While the controversy surrounding late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray’s memorial refuses to die, chairman of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) standing  committee Rahul Shewale on Monday maintained that the structure will definitely be constructed in Dadar.

Shewale, in the backdrop of reports of the memorial likely to be constructed on the mayoral bungalow premises, reiterated that there are a few locations being considered by the all-party committee set up under mayor Sunil Prabhu’s leadership to suggest options where the memorial can be built. The options will be discussed with Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray who will then finalise the location.

“There are options... Shivaji Park, mayor’s bungalow, Bal Krida Bhavan (located close to the official home of city’s first resident) are being considered. Another option being considered is constructing a Shaktisthal-like structure at Shivaji Park and a full-fledged memorial at mayor’s bungalow. The final call will be taken by Uddhavji once 13 days since Balasaheb’s death are over. One thing is certain, the memorial will be constructed in Dadar,” Shewale said.

The Sena corporator from Mankhurd claimed that the suggestion of constructing the memorial at mayor’s bungalow came from the state.

The same, however, could not be confirmed with the state government. Minister of state for the urban development department Bhaskar Jadhav, who earlier had said that the government will consider positively any proposal regarding Thackeray’s memorial checking all legal aspects, said he wasn’t aware of any such developments. Chief secretary Jayant Kumar Banthia said, “I have not received any proposal in this connection so far.”
