With intelligence inputs warning of possible aerial terror attacks at the public meeting of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) on Monday, the Mumbai police have ordered BKC, Kherwadi, Vakola and Kurla police stations to ensure that no remote-controlled aerial device is used within their jurisdictions on Sunday and Monday.
According to an order issued by deputy commissioner of police, operations, Sanjay Barkund, report has been received that terrorists/anti-social elements may carry out attacks using a drone controlled by a remote. Terrorists may attack using para-gliders, remote controlled micro-light aircraft during public meeting of Narendra Modi at BKC on Monday.
"There is every likelihood of breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility and also there is a grave danger to human life and safety. During the said public meeting, many VIPs and citizens in large numbers may come together, hence it is necessary that some checks should be put on the activities of terrorists and anti-social elements around the BKC area to prevent the attack," states the order.
It further states that, in the view of public meeting at BKC, no flying activities of para-gliders, remote controlled micro-light aircraft be allowed in the jurisdictions of BKC, Kherwadi, Vakola and Kurla police stations. "The order will remain in force from 3pm to 10pm on the day of public meeting," the order states.The same arrangement was made for the public meeting of Congress party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, but she had to cancel her visit at BKC on Sunday. "Heavy deployment of policemen will be made at the venue and near the periphery.
Anti-sabotage checking will be done. Police watchers will be armed with ultra-modern communication devices to ensure nothing untoward takes place," said a senior police officer.
