Mumbaikars seemed to be hit by the heat wave that is only increasing its grip over the city as on Monday the maximum temperature crossed 38 degree Celsius. In fact the mercury rose by 3.1 degree Celsius from Sunday when the maximum temperature was 35.3 degree Celsius.

Santacruz recorded a maximum of 38.4 degree Celsius while Colaba saw the maximum temperature of 33.4 degree Celsius on Monday and if officials from the India Meteorological Department, Mumbai are to be believed the temperature could even rise further causing more discomfort in the coming days.

“This condition is due to the north-westerly winds from Rajashthan and it might cause the temperatures to soar further and also there might be such variations in the temperature too,” said an IMD official. While Mumbai is seeing temperatures crossing 38 degree Celsius, several parts of Maharashtra including Vidharbha and Central Maharashtra have reported temperatures slightly above 40 degree Celsius.

“Mumbai is increasingly becoming hotter by the day. In fact, while travelling in the noon on Monday even the air conditioner of the car despite being on full blast seemed to be of little help. The worry is that this is just March and April and May are yet to arrive,” said Amit Shah a Ghatkopar resident.
