In a shocking case, a 19-year-old girl was recently attacked with a blade by an alleged stalker in broad daylight, for having declined his marriage proposal.
According to police, the incident occurred around 4:30pm on Tuesday when victim Prachi Golke, a resident of Annie Besant Road, Worli, was walking near the Methodist Church near Worli Naka.
In her statement, Golke claimed she was being stalked by two unknown persons since April 22 near her home and workplace.
"Golke was on her way to work when her stalkers followed her on a motorcycle, then blocked her way. The man riding pillion, believed to be in his early 20s, got off the bike and held her hand," said an officer from Worli police station.
The victim, shocked by the youth's audacity, was further traumatised when he proposed to her. "Golke immediately rejected his proposal, after which he pulled out a blade and slit her left wrist," the officer said.
Golke then shouted for help. Anticipating a mob assault, the duo sped off on their bike. She approached Worli police station which was nearby, and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Vinay Kulkarni, senior police inspector of Worli police station, confirmed the incident and said a case had been registered against the two unknown persons under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The victim has given a description of her attacker and his associate to the police. "We are trying to locate witnesses and check if the incident has been captured in any CCTV in the vicinity," the officer said.
