After coming across several glaring grammatical errors in the state board textbooks, a class XI student of Jai Hind College has now written to the state education minister, raising concerns over the poor language used in most textbooks of the board.

Manan Parekh (16), a student of Jai Hind College in Churchgate, said he was extremely uncomfortable after he found numerous grammatical and syntax errors in the Class XI textbooks for Commerce and thus decided to write to the minister to improve the quality of study material.

In the letter, Parekh has pointed out the issue of ‘’incorrect grammar” and has said more than the poor binding and the bad quality of pages, poor usage of the language has created a negative impression about the books in his mind.  “I love English and feel that one cannot learn the language merely through English as a subject. In all the papers that we have, it should be ensured that the concepts are explained in simple yet correct English. Over 60% content in today’s class XI textbooks is wrongly written or poorly framed. The government should ensure that the quality of textbooks improves,” he added. “The problem is with proofreading. If the government does not get good proofreaders, even students like me would be more than happy to take up the task for everyone else.”
