A 19-year-old labourer succumbed to head injuries on Wednesday after a cement block came crashing down from the fourth floor of an under-construction building at Borivali West. The MHB police have arrested two people for allegedly causing death due to negligence.

The police said that Raju Ahmed Ali was working late at night at Sanskruti Glacier building off New Link Road when a balcony slab collapsed to the ground floor, smashing his head. "His co-workers rushed him to hospital but he was declared dead before admission," said a police officer.

"The construction site did not have safety nets and the place was very dimly lit, which led to the accident," said the officer. A case under IPC sections 304A (causing death due to negligence) and 34 (common intent) has been lodged by the police.
