As the industries department prepares for the Make in India week between February 13 and 18, the biggest such event in the recent past, the state government has decided to deploy a special team of retired officers who specialise in protocol for handling the VVIPs.

A senior official informed that since the list of dignitaries attending the Make in India week includes heads of various countries, there would be a great deal of protocol-related formalities. The official, on the condition of anonymity, said the state government has selected a team of retired government officers, who had been involved in protocol-related duties for a long time.

The official further informed that since the dignitaries are senior ministers from other countries, there is a need for smart, dynamic but polite officers for protocol duties. He said taking in to consideration the logistics for the event, the protocol officers deployed would also need to be trouble-shooters and that is the reason that proficient retired officers are being considered.

Prime minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Make in India week on February 13 at the Bandra Kurla Complex on a huge exhibition facility spread over 2.5 lakh square metres. The theme of the event will be innovation, design and sustainability, with an aim to attract foreign direct investment to the country.

After the Modi-led government started the initiative, this is the largest event organised to propagate Make in India, and 11 key sectors have been identified for the week-long activities. There would also be an exhibition, along with a Make in Maharashtra contest.
