Teachers who conduct SSC and HSC exams may get relief from election duty work

The circular states that the state board requested to the election commission through a letter on 8 February to relieve those teachers from election duty who are already assigned board exam duty

Teachers of secondary and higher secondary section who will be conducting Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) oral and practical state board examination may get relieved from the election duty work.

After many teachers’ organization requested and wrote letters to Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) and state election commission to withdraw them from election duty that may disrupt the board oral and practical examinations started from 7 February, the state election commission have finally issued a circular on Wednesday (yesterday).

The circular states that the state board requested to the election commission through a letter on 8 February to relieve those teachers from election duty who are already assigned board exam duty. The election commission have written to district officers and municipal commissioner of Mumbai, Thane, Ulhasnagar, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Nasik, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur to discuss and decide of relieving teachers from election duty.

Anil Deshmukh, General Secretary, Mumbai Regional Junior College Teachers Organization (MRJCT) said, "Though the circular has been issued for teachers on election duty but it is not clearing stating that relieve teachers from election work. So, we have contacted chairman of state board and have informed them that if teachers are conducting board exams and will be called for election work, there will be a problem. The chairman has assured us of nothing such will happen as they have written letters to district officers too."
