‘Narendra Modi hasn’t forgotten his humble beginnings. The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, who as a callow teenager sold tea at Ahmedabad railway station before taking the plunge into politics, will have special guests for his rally in Mumbai. Wayside tea vendors have been given a special invite for his rally on Sunday.
The rally is scheduled to be held at Bandra-Kurla Complex on Sunday (December 22).
“We’ve already extended invitations to 10,000 tea vendors in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai,” said Bhalchandra Shirshat, a former corporator of the party. “There will be a special area at the venue which will be earmarked to accommodate the tea vendors.”
Shirshat added that his party workers are in touch with tea vendors and will ensure that they make it to the rally, which will kick-start election campaigns in the city for the 2014 general elections.
Besides tea vendors, sources from the party said they have invited representatives from all foreign consulates to attend the rally. “We’re campaigning on a massive scale and using various media to get maximum participation. We are going door-to-door for the same,” said advocate Ashish Shelar chief of the party’s city unit.
Sources from the party said they have a special phone number on which party supporters have been asked to give a missed call. An organiser will then call them back, take down their number and residential address and arrange to pick them up on the day of the rally from a landmark near their homes.
