46-year-old Mira Road resident Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer is known as an expert bomb maker and a computer expert by the officers from Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and MumbaI Crime Branch. Over a decade ago, Tauqeer was touted to be India’s most wanted criminal.

Tauqeer’s name had cropped up during the interrogations of Ehteshaam Siddiqui and Faisal Shaikh, both suspected to be the mastermind behind the 2006 serial train blasts in Mumbai.

Siddiqui, Shaikh, and Tauqeer were arrested in Surat in 2002-03 by the Gujarat police for allegedly attending a SIMI meeting there.

There are four offences registered against Tauqeer in Mumbai since 1998, immediately after ban on SIMI, which includes two cases of the ATS registered under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in 2006 and 2008.

Both the cases were related to meetings of SIMI members in which Tauqeer was involved with wanted terror suspects Safdar Nagouri and Feroz Pathan.
