After much ado, Tardeo's Vasantdada Patil Udyan, a small garden that sits right next to Tardeo RTO, is finally opened to the public
In September last year, we had reported how Vasantdada Patil Udyan, Tardeo's long-neglected garden, lay in shambles. Thankfully, D-ward has been working to revive the garden, and after a period of three months, opened it to the public.
This garden was closed by the BMC ward to carry out drainage work but even after the work was completed, the ward failed to restore the garden. Residents from around the area claimed that the garden had become a hotbed for drug peddlers and anti-social activities and was also used by taxi drivers to park their vehicles. Today, Keshav Patil, a local resident, shares, "The garden has been a mess for around one and a half years so I am glad that it is now rebuilt."
The garden underwent a major makeover (as can be seen in the pictures) and is now open to the public, much to their relief. Among other things, the garden has a dedicated place for reading and a tiny, open gym along with some gym equipment.
Mohit Rana, another resident, shares, "The residents living around here are elated with the fact that the garden is now accessible to the public. The effort has finally gotten rid of the anti-social elements and we can now be at ease. The park is a recreational spot for all of us."
The garden is proving to be a boon for senior citizens and children, given the lack of space to walk around and play in our space-crunched city.
To inaugurate the garden, top politicos were present at the site including Devidas Kshirsagar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, D-ward; Arvind Sawant, MP (Mumbai South constituency); Shiv Sena's Anil Desai; Parag Masurkar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, K/West ward; Arvind Dudhwadkar, BEST Committee Chairman, among others.
