Tanker crushes Jain sadhvi on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway

A Jain Sadhvi was crushed to death by a tanker while two other sadhvis were injured after the vehicle skidded and hit them on Thursday evening at Virar. One of the injured sadhvis is critical and is admitted to a private hospital in Vasai.

The deceased sadhvi has been identified as Parvanidhi Shreeji, 35, and the injured are Arpitpurna Shreeji and Mantranidhi Shreeji. They were walking towards Gujarat on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway when the tanker (MH 06 K 5851) skidded after the driver lost control over it near Khanivade toll naka in Virar.

"The sadhvis were walking on the edge of the road and did not see the tanker coming towards them. Parvanidhi was crushed to death and the other two sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to Golden Park hospital for treatment," said a police officer.

"We have registered a case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence under the Motor Vehicle Act. The driver is absconding," said Sunil Mane, police inspector, Virar police station.
