The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is hesitating in announcing that it has awarded tender for civil works for Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro 2A to the tainted J. Kumar Infraprojects.

Work on this 18.60-km long metro line is being implemented by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), who had floated bids. For the alignment there were two packages or tenders that were floated for designing and construction of the metro link.

"The bids were finalised a month ago and awarded to J. Kumar Infraprojects sometime in June-end," said an official. However, till now MMRDA is yet to make it public and formally announce the same.

In the past it has received criticism for having given out bids for part of construction of Metro 7 between Dahisar East-Andheri East to the same infrastructure firm.

This firm is allegedly involved in civic body's road repair scam, yet it has been bagging contracts from the MMRDA. According to senior MMRDA officials, as per legal opinion sought, they aren't on the wrong side of law.

Each of the two packages had an estimated cost of Rs700 crore. The quotation of J. Kumar Infraprojects was below the reserve price set. The completion cost of this 18.60-km elevated metro line is pegged at Rs6,410 crore and will be erected on the median of New Link Road.

In the first package, design and construction of viaduct and 8 elevated stations has been included, these metro stations are Anand Nagar, Rushi Sankul, I C Colony, Eksar, Don Bosco, Shimpoli, Mahavir Nagar and Kamraj Nagar.

Whereas, the second package includes the balance 8 stations and the viaduct along the way, these stations are Charkop, Malad, Kasturi Park, Bangur Nagar, Goregaon, Adarsh Nagar, Shashtri Nagar and DN Nagar.

The system will be designed for 8-coach metro trains and having 17 stations along the route. The expected daily ridership by 2021 has been estimated at 4.07 lakh.
