The special Terrorist Activities and Disruptive Act (TADA) court on Monday extended the police custody of Farooq Mansoor alias Farooq Takla, the newly arrested accused in the 1993 blast case, to March 28. Takla was absconding for almost 25 years. The court while extending the police custody held that it is pertinent to note that once the accused is sent to judicial custody, all doors of interrogation are closed to the investigating officer and to collect admissible evidence the police custody is essential.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its remand application held, "The accused was thoroughly interrogated during the previous police custody, and it is found that the accused is deeply involved in the criminal conspiracy to commit terrorist acts, including the 1993 blasts. the accused has stated that prior to '93 blast case, he, on the insistence of Anees Ibrahim, had arranged a stay for many persons and dropped them to Dubai Airport for their visit to Pakistan."

"The fake passport was issued to him under the assumed name Mustak Miya. The investigation is required to find the modus operandi adopted by the accused to obtain the passport. The accused is not coming up with true facts so far as his role in criminal conspiracy an active conspirator, the perpetrator in the case along with other accused like Dawood Kaskar, Anis Kaskar and others," read the remand application.

The application was opposed by the defense which stated that no new substance has been surfaced in the last police custody, however, it was rejected by the court. 257 people were killed while 713 people were injured in 12 blasts on March 12, 1993. Over 3,000 kilos of RDX was brought to the country, of which 10% was used.
