Swine flu kills 12 in Maharashtra on Wednesday

Maharashtra recorded 51 new swine flu cases and 12 deaths on Wednesday. Of these, two deaths were recorded in Nanded and Mumbai each, and one each in Buldhana, Bhandara, Aurangbad, Jalna, Kolhapur, Pune and Ahmednagar.

One of the deceased is a three-month-old child, a resident of Akola, who died in Mumbai. He was admitted to Kasturba Hospital on March 27 and succumbed three days later. He suffered from pneumonia with congenital heart disease with influenza H1N1 infection.

The other deceased from city is a 32-year-old Kalyan resident. He was admitted on March 28 and succumbed the same day due to respiratory failure.

In Maharashtra, a total of 4,625 swine flu cases have been recorded this year. Of these, 416 succumbed to the disease, while 4,002 were cured. As many as 208 people are hospitalised, of which 33 remain critical and on ventilator.

With 1,589 cases, Mumbai accounts for 34% of the state's swine flu cases. The city has witnessed 17 deaths due to swine flu this year.
