Swine flu cases drop in city, fever up

Cases of swine flu have decreased to 72 till August 15 as compared to 413 swine flu cases in July.

The month of August has seen a rise in cases of fever as per the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). According to the statistics provided by the BMC's public health department, in the month of August, the city has recorded a total of 4,339 cases of fever in civic-run government hospitals.

Cases of swine flu have decreased to 72 till August 15 as compared to 413 swine flu cases in July. However, statistics show a steep rise in the spread of viral fever in the city in August. The public health department has advised citizens not to ignore symptoms of fever and consult the doctor immediately.

"There has been a definite rise in patients suffering from fever and seeking medical treatment for it. Most of the cases can be attributed to common cough, common cold and fever viral, followed by patients having dengue fever, although the number is significantly less than the previous year. It is spread across all age groups, from teens to elderly and patients with co-morbidities having a prolonged recovery period," said Dr Anand Mishra, Consultant Internal Medicine, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi.

Reported cases

839 cases of probable dengue like illnesses were admitted in various civic-run hospitals.
Areas which have seen an increase in the number of dengue cases include Byculla, Worli, Jogeshwari, Juhu Koliwada, Goregaon, Kurla, Bhandup and Kanjurmarg.
