The state assembly on Wednesday revoked the suspension of five MLAs it had suspended on March 20 till December 31. The five were suspended for allegedly beating up police sub-inspector Sachin Suryavanshi on the premises of Vidhan Bhavan.

Ram Kadam from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Kshitij Thakur from the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi, Rajan Salvi from the Shiv Sena, Jaykumar Rawal from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Pradeep Jaiswal, an independent affiliated with the Sena, will now also be allowed to enter the Vidhan Bhavan premises, both in Mumbai and Nagpur.

A proposal for the same was put in the assembly after group leaders and opposition leaders requested that their suspension be revoked.

On the assembly premises, minister of parliamentary affairs Harshwardhan Patil put the proposal. He said the committee appointed after their suspension too stated that the suspension be revoked.

“While it was unfortunate that the MLAs did something like that, they have assured us that they will be more responsible and display good conduct,” Patil said.

The proposal was then read by chairperson Dilip Walse-Patil and passed by voice vote in the assembly.

Some opposition members had earlier raised the issue in the assembly that their suspension be revoked. It was debated in the assembly that when the suspension of the police officer who was allegedly beaten up was revoked, then why not that of the MLAs.

The opposition also demanded revoking the one-year suspension of Sena MLA Omraje Nimbalkar. He was suspended for lifting the mace of the speaker.

Some members demanded that privilege motion against certain media personnel be taken up. However, the issue was not taken up for discussion in the assembly.
The alleged assault had happened after Suryavanshi fined MLA Kshitij Thakur for speeding on the Bandra Worli Sea Link.

After the incident, speaker Dilip Walse-Patil had apologised to the state, the police and the legislators. Director general of police and city police commissioner had soon met the chief minister stating there was unease among the police.

The government had then set up a disciplinary committee headed by senior MLA Ganpatrao Deshmukh to look into the alleged assault case. The committee had stated that there was no evidence against the three of the five MLAs suspended.
