Sumantai Patil's win a tribute to RR Patil: NCP

The victory of Sumantai Patil, the NCP candidate in Tasgaon-Kavthemahankal constituency bypoll by over one lakh votes, is a tribute to former home minister RR Patil, said NCP leaders on Wednesday.

Sumantai, the late minister's wife, was pitched after the veteran leader's demise. The NCP had asked all parties to not field anyone against Sumantai, as a mark of respect to RR Patil and so that she could could be elected unopposed. However, Bharatiya Janata Party rebel candidate Swapnil Patil had challenged her, but Sumantai comfortably trounced him by securing 1.30 lakh votes.

"We are grateful to the Tasgaon voters who backed her. RR Patil worked in this constituency for more than 25 years by undertaking various development works and project. Sumantai's victory is a tribute to him. And she will fulfil his dream by serving the constituency's people," said NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik.
