Stakeholders in the transport sector will be presenting their suggestions for the draft transport legislation which is planned to be tabled in the monsoon session of the state assembly.

A meeting was held on Thursday to discuss the larger aspects that should be included in the proposed law. "Various stakeholders were in the meeting, including representatives from transport department, public transport undertakings like MSRTC and BEST, field officers, transport experts and activists, etc.," said a source.

In the next two weeks, the stakeholders will have to come up with suggestions that can be part of the Transport Act. The next meeting will be held after a fortnight.

"Different states have different rules on the transport sector. We can include the best of all that is not part of Road Transport and Safety Bill, 2014. These would also include air and noise pollution norms," said an official.

Even taxi aggregators will come under the fold of the proposed state transport legislation that is yet to be formalised or given a name. However, minister of transport Diwakar Raote announced that this bill would cover important aspects leaving no loophole in the transport sector operations.
