Actor Sanjay Dutt, who on Friday said he was feeling claustrophobic and wanted to be shifted out of in Arthur Road Jail’s Anda Cell, has refused to file an application for changing his cell.

There was speculation that Dutt could be moved in a hush hush operation on Saturday night, in all likelihood to Yerawada jail in Pune. Authorities claimed no final decision had been taken on which jail Dutt would be transferred to, and when. Additional DGP (Prisons) Meeran Borwankar said, ”We are still to decide.”

Dutt on Saturday met his counsel Rizwan Merchant and informed him that he does not want to file any application for change of cell. “I met Dutt, he seem to be in a better frame of mind. He has no complains. Also when I asked him if he wants me to file an application for the change of his cell, he refused,” said Merchant.

Merchant on Friday before the TADA court had made an oral plea to shift Dutt from the Anda Cell. He claimed his client was experiencing suffocation due to poor ventilation and lighting. The TADA court judge GA Sanap said he would decide on the plea once Dutt filed a written application.

Fate of the others
Kersi Adajania, another accused, was shifted to the Nashik jail and Essa Memon, was initially taken to Nashik and then was transferred to Aurangabad.

Memon had requested the TADA court to transfer him to Aurangabad jail so he could take care of his schizophrenic younger brother, who is also a convict in the 1993 blast case and is lodged in the Aurangabad jail.
