After Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray denied an appointment to him, finance minister and BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar on Monday said that BJP would contest the assembly elections on its own, if the Sena does not want an alliance. He said, “The BJP would win the elections on its own”.

After returning from his foreign tour, Thackeray met Sena  workers from Ahmednagar on Sunday. They wanted to protest outside Varsha, the chief minister’s official residence, against the murder of two Sena leaders in Kedgaon last week.

Mungantiwar wanted to meet Thackeray in this regard but Thackeray is believed to have conveyed that he would not meet any BJP leader unless he visits Kedgaon in Ahmednagar on April 25 and Naanar in Konkan on April 23. Nearly 17 villages are opposing the Naanar refinery project.

Mungantiwar told mediapersons that he wanted to meet Thackeray but could not meet him. He said that if the Sena was averse to alliance, the BJP was ready to fight the ensuing assembly elections on its own.
“The BJP would contest all the 288 assembly seats to win the majority on its own,”he said.

It was BJP president Amit Shah who had expressed the desire to strike alliance with the Sena. Shah had said last week, “Shiv Sena is still part of the NDA since it has its ministers as part of the Government and we would like to have alliance with the Shiv Sena.”

NO PROTESTS

  • Meanwhile, Sena workers from Ahmednagar have decided not to stage demonstrations outside Varsha on Tuesday. Bhau Korgaonkar, Shiv Sena Sampark Pramukh from Ahmednagar said Sena leader and minister Eknath Shinde had directed them not to protest since demands regarding Kedgaon incident had been accepted by the state.
