A Thane police sub-inspector and woman were arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000, Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) unit said on Saturday.
Sub-inspector Balu D Rathod attached to Shri Nagar police station and a woman named Vaishali Shivaji Malusare were arrested on Friday night in a trap laid by ACB officials for allegedly taking the amount mentioned as a bribe from the complainant whose name is unknown, Shrinivas Ghagde of ACB said.
According to the complainant, he purchased a room in Indira Nagar slum in Thane in March earlier this year from Vaishali but she did not vacate the room, and instead registered a complaint against the buyer at the Shri Nagar police station. Sub-inspector Rathod then contacted the complainant (the buyer) and said that he will not book offences against him if he gives him Rs 1 lakh. However, after deliberations the amount asked for was Rs 30,000.
The complainant then approached Thane ACB unit and filed a formal complaint against Rathod and Vaishali, following which a trap was laid and the duo were arrested. They have both been charged under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
