The first merit list for admissions to the first year in junior colleges (FYJC) has been delayed yet again, making students wait anxiously all through the day on Monday.

The list, which was to be declared at 5 pm was not ready until late evening. The delay is being attributed to the lack of experience on part of the new service provider appointed by the government to handle the online admission portal. The service provider, NYSA, failed to upload the data on the website until Monday evening.

At the time of going to press, state education department officials said that they were expecting the list to be out by midnight. "The process is taking longer as the agency undertaking the work is new. They are not ready, and have been asking for more time to upload the details," said BB Chavan, Deputy Director, Education, Mumbai region.

This is the second time students seeking admission in FYJC have encountered delay. Citing glitches, the state education department had earlier postponed the first merit list from July 7 to 10.

A total of 2,36,166 students have applied for 2.92 lakh seats this year. The delay is only fuelling anxiousness as students and parents constantly check the website, which eventually crashed after 7 pm. DNA had earlier reported about the concerns raised in NYSA's appointment for the job. The company was blacklisted for three years by the Punjab government in December 2016 after it allegedly failed to furnish proof of experience in handling online registration of three lakh students.

Despite repeated calls, officials from NYSA could not be reached for a comment.
