The management of Indian Education Society (IES), which runs several schools in Dadar and other areas, stated on Tuesday that an unnecessary controversy was being created by vested interests with regard to the timings of the schools in its Dadar (east) campus. Some of the parents had recently protested against the change in timings.

IES vice-president Amol Damdhere, trustee Satish Nayak, senior vice-president Manohar Lotlikar and principal Meenakshi Walke, told news persons on Tuesday that last November itself the management had informed parents about the proposal to change the timings.

"We have been extremely democratic in our functioning. All office-bearers are former IES students and are managing the institution in a spirit of service," Damdhere said. "We have now decided to give the parents of VN Sule Guruji English Medium School in the Dadar (East) campus four options (in box below). Earlier, the timings here was 9.30am to 3.30pm; from this year it has been changed to 12.50pm to 6.20pm.

According to IES management, about 14 of its campuses are operating in two shifts, and same shift timings have been applied to the Dadar (East) campus as well.

Dhamdhere said: "As all parents were not present at the last meeting, we have called them again on Thursday. We will give them the four options regarding the timings. The parents meetings will be held in the classrooms and teachers will answer the queries of parents."

IES is a highly-respected education behemoth educating 60,000 students spread over 20 campuses. The oldest IES school is a Marathi medium one started 102 years ago. The second oldest is a girls' school started 97 years ago. It started a Gujarati school 85 years ago and an English medium one 51 years ago. In 2005 the Gujarati school was shut down due to poor demand. It has now decided to start an ICSE school and has named it ORION.
