Students meet Sharad Pawar over reservation issue in minority degree college

Pawar has assured all the students wings to help them meet the HRD minister Prakash Javdekar to discuss the reservation issue in minority degree colleges which Supreme Court recently dismissed.

Different students wing like PRAHAR, Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena, Rashtrawadi Vidyarthi Congress, Janta Dal and few more gathered in Delhi in front of the residence of Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar on Wednesday. Pawar has assured all the students wings to help them meet the HRD minister Prakash Javdekar to discuss the reservation issue in minority degree colleges which Supreme Court recently dismissed.

Mumbai University's first-year degree college admissions were halted by the state government after the government decided to file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court to get reservation for other backward category students in minority institutions. Admissions for the first year of degree colleges resumed after SC dismissed SLP and the second merit list was declared on Saturday, July 14. But this did not stop the fight for reservation. Many students wing came together at Delhi to seek help from the Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar who has assured them on Wednesday to hold a meeting with HRD minister Prakash Javdekar.

Ajay Tapkir, secretary of Prahar Student Organization, said, "We are expecting to meet the HRD Minister today or tomorrow and we all students wing will be requesting him to table the bill in Parliament and amend Article 15 (5)."

"We will also meet Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale at his residence to discuss the issue as it is related to reservation." said, Santosh Gangurde, State Vice President MNVS.
