If entering one of the most crucial class (standard X) for a student isn't scary enough, what makes it worse if the student doesn't know which book to buy for his syllabus. That's exactly what is going on in childrens' mind who have just entered their board year. Students are in a dilemma as to which Maths textbook to buy. The shopkeepers have two versions of the textbook wherein one has 153 pages and the other book has 183 pages. And the worst part is that the shopkeepers refuse to exchange the books as they claim that both the books are a part of the syllabus. The only different is that they have been printed after a gap of few months.

With all the extra classes and coaching sessions for SSC students to begin soon, students are worried from which book to study from. "It's about uniformity that needs to be maintained by the department, with two textbooks and both have different math problems, we really don't know which one to buy. This is a very crucial year and it it is essential for students to know which book to follow. Also if later they get to know that they have bought the wrong book then they should be able to exchange it with the correct one. But unfortunately, the shopkeepers refuse to do so," said Prashant Shinde, a parent.

Meanwhile, shopkeepers have their reasons. "If we accept the returned books, we will face losses as we have both the versions. Also if the book is not a part of the syllabus then we shall accept the books back. But here the case is different, they are very much part of the syllabus but are printed after a few months gap. Hence, there are a few changes. Both the books are beneficial for the children," said Mayuresh Gajre, shopkeeper.

The book that was published in 2013 has 183 pages and after a few changes a new version was printed in March 2014. "Our coaching classes have begun and it is only by June that extra classes in school will start. We realised this problem during our coaching class when we found that the sum on Page 13, is different in both the books," said Aarti Vashisht, a student.

With a difference of over 30 pages, students are worried if there are some chapter or sums missing in the books. "We first thought it would be better to buy the book with more number of pages, as it will have all the information. But it was only later that we had realised that the new version has fewer pages. If they have released a new version then they obviously have changed it considering those portion unnecessary. With no option left, we have decided to buy both the books," said Anil Naik, a parent.
