The state government is believed to have decided to go soft on its insistence for alternative land for a bullet train station at BKC and has shown willingness to give nod to the Railway Board for the terminus alongside the proposed International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) being built in the business district.

If sources are to be believed, the new design submitted by this centre recently was in accordance with the state government's demands. An official said that with more clarity in the design both projects can prove complementary to each other. The official, however, added that the state would not oppose the bullet train terminus only if building for the IFSC is provided by the centre.

He informed that the state has written to the central government to extend the route of the bullet train till Nashik.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and officials from the MMRDA, which owns the BKC plot, have been bluntly refusing to give away the land for the train terminus. Fadnavis had repeatedly said the state had offered the railway alternative plots around BKC. Officials from the MMRDA and the Urban Development Department had conveyed this to the railways during their meeting on May 23. But after the insistence of the central government, particularly the prime minister's office, the state softened its stand.
