Expressing the need to maintain the progressive character of the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday assured the people that state would remain unified and backward communities would receive their dues.

Fadnavis hoisted tri-colour at Mantralay premises during Independence Day celebration on Wednesday. Senior ministers, bureaucrats and Mantralaya employees as well as invitees were present on the occasion.

Expressing his gratitude towards martyrs and freedom fighters as well as farmers of the state, Fadnavis said, " We will ensure that all the communities march together to make Maharashtra a strong and leading state so that it can remain the growth engine for the country."

"The backward communities will be taken along in this journey of progress and if communal harmony is maintained the state would be able to progress. For this very character of the state which has so far been progressive needs to be maintained," he added.

"Out of total foreign direct investment in the country, Maharashtra has received 42 per cent of it; leading to employment generation, said Fadnavis. He said that in the last one year alone, employment to the tune of 8 lakhs has been generated in the organised sectors in Maharashtra. Pointing it out that Maharashtra is a leading state when it comes to implementing Pradhanmantri Awas Yojana and under this housing scheme, the state would be building 6.5 lakh houses by 2022.

Stating that Jalyukt Shivar Yojana was the flagship scheme of his government, Fadnavis said that so far 18 thousand villages have been made drought-free and the state has set a target of converting a total of 25 thousand villages by getting rid of drought forever. Underlining efforts towards augmentation of farmers' income, Fadnavis said that his Government in a matter of last 3 years has bought food-grains produced by farmers to the tune of Rs. 8 thousand crores.
