In a bid to generate more tourism, the state government plans to explore historic forts of Maharashtra and provide overnight staying facilities at 200 such forts.

Maharashtra Minister for Tourism, Jaikumar Rawal, on Friday informed that tourists visiting these historic forts get to know about its rich history. However, in order to enrich this experience further, he stated that the government plans on providing accommodation facilities at the fort itself so that tourists can experience the place where history has unfolded.

Rawal informed that his department in coordination with the Archaeological Survey of India would provide state-of-the-art facilities to tourists right at the forts. He said that by staying at the fort, tourists can avail information in detail about its architecture and historic events that happened at the fort and in the adjacent areas.

He said that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has already taken up the issue of Raigad Fort with ASI and in the same way, his department would avail permissions from ASI for providing staying facilities at historic forts.
