Making it clear that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis would not be removed from his post over the issue of reservation benefits for the Maratha community, senior minister Chandrakant Patil said on Monday that Fadnavis has already stated that the government was committed to the matter.

Addressing the media outside the BJP state unit headquarters at Nariman Point, Patil said the state government has taken a serious note of the silent Maratha Kranti Marches and would form an empowered group to talk to the organisers in various districts.

He said the government would approach leaders of Opposition from both Houses of the state legislature and a minister, who will meet Maratha leaders or organisers in various districts. He further said the government was ready to discuss all the issues and was committed to provide reservation benefits to the Maratha community.

When asked what the CM's meant when he said he would work to bring about change as long he was on the post, Patil said there was no need to draw any inference from the statement. He said it was not BJP culture to remove a person, who has not committed any mistake, from a post. He said the CM has made necessary efforts to provide reservation to Marathas and as far as other demands are concerned, the empowered group would visit all the districts where these marches were taken out, so that all the demands of the community could be addressed.

'Organisers must prepare joint draft of demands'

Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said on Monday that there was a need for the Maratha march organisers to sit together and prepare a joint draft of demands in all districts. He said after preparing such a draft of demands, it should be discussed with the chief minister, so that a final decision could be taken. He also said that he participated in the silent march in Ahmednagar as a common Maratha citizen.
