The state government's health department has given fund approval to two state-run government hospitals — Gokuldas Tejpal (GT) Hospital and St George Hospital at CST — to avail medical facilities and equipment for the patients.

As per the letter given by the government, a fund of Rs 6.99 crore has been granted to GT Hospital for the year 2017-18, while Rs 8 crore has been granted to St George Hospital.

The sanctioned amount will be used to increase over 40 medical facilities and equipment in both hospital. While funds for GT Hospital were sanctioned on October 31, funds for St George Hospital were sanctioned on October 16.

Speaking about the status of current facilities at St George Hospital, Dr Madhukar Gaikwad, Medical Superintendent, said, "We have started upgarding medical facilities for the patients. Every year, funds are provided by few NGOs, social workers and the government. While not all requirements can be fulfilled by funds raised by the social organisation, state government funds, with a bigger budget, help meet the requirement."

Currently, a new CT Scan facility, renovation of Thalassemia unit is in process at St George. They are planning to upgrade the medical equipment and facilities in the surgery and ICU units. Besides funds for other equipment, St Geroge Hospital will also be given five ventilators.

Funds for GT Hospital will help provide an ENT workstation, blood cell counter machine, instruments for open surgery, to name a few.

Dr MB Tayade, medical superintendent of GT Hospital was not reachable for comment.
