State cracking down on online drug trade: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Anti-Narcotics cells have also been set up in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Nagpur and Aurangabad. In addition, the state government is planning to set up cyber crime labs in all districts of Maharashtra.

The state government and were are cracking down on the online sale of narcotics, said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday.

In a written reply to a question by Shiv Sena's Kalina MLA Sanjay Potnis and Sena' Worli MLA Sunil Shinde, Fadnavis said instructions have been given to the director general of police, Maharashtra, and other officials concerned to monitor and control online drug trade.

Anti-Narcotics cells have also been set up in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Nagpur and Aurangabad. In addition, the state government is planning to set up cyber crime labs in all districts of Maharashtra.

The CM said that a total of 59 cases have been lodged against women for their alleged involvement in the narcotics trade and 63 women have been arrested. In 2015, a total of 244 cases were lodged.
