Most parents invest to secure a good future for their children. Dadar residents and SSC fails Sunita and Sunil Tambe, on the other hand, decided to reappear for their Std X board exam for opening up their job prospects that would translate into a brighter future for their children. After almost two decades, they took the exam again and passed with flying colours.

Sunita (35), who secured 57%, works as a peon in NGO Akanksha that imparts English medium education in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation schools, named as Mumbai Public Schools, in city.

"The NGO staff, including the principal and teachers, always encouraged me to study further. When they saw me handling a classroom well in the absence of teachers, they told me that educating myself will help me get promoted or take up something better and secure a good future for my children. Hence, I took a break from my work for a year and decided to give the exam. I filled form 17 from my old school in Ghatkopar and started preparing in September. I also joined classes," she said.

"I used to study from morning 5am till night. My children are the reason why I decided to do this. They both encouraged me."

Sunil (43) works in the civic water department in Andheri. Sunita encouraged him as well to retake the exam. He secured 63.88%.

"When on morning shift, I used to attend Milind night school for lectures; that's where I filled form 17. My colleagues were very cooperative and encouraged me. If I was put on afternoon shift, I would reach my school and ask my children to come there with my school bag. They would take my office bag home. At times, I would even carry my books to work to study."

Tambes' daughter is in Std IX and son in Std V. The husband and wife now plan to take admission in the night school attached to a junior college in commerce.
