On Friday, several school authorities camped at the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education's (MSBSHSE) Mumbai division office in Vashi, waiting for the board to issue hall tickets for their students.

On February 26, when the hall tickets reached the schools, those for several students were missing. The board had asked the schools to send them requests for the same and collect them on Friday. "Our office staff waited outside the board office for hours but the board was issuing hall tickets only for schools in Raigad district. There were thousands at the board office; it was in a complete mess," said Prashant Redij, principal, Hilda Castelino Marathi High School, Kandivli.

Other city schools were worried about making last-minute arrangements for the board exams starting on March 3. "We have yet not received the seating arrangements, so we have no clue how to begin our preparations. We are generally allotted students according to the space available and, sometimes, all our classrooms are taken up. So, if on the day of the exam extra students end up at some centres, it will be very difficult to accommodate them," said Anjana Prakash, principal, Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri.

The board has, however, assured that everything will be in order before the exams begin. "A lot of hall tickets were issued on Friday and the rest will be issued on Saturday. The seating arrangement too has been put up on the website and a hard copy will reach the schools on Saturday," said Laxmikant Pande, the board's Mumbai division chairperson.

On Friday, members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena met Pande and demanded an inquiry into the faults and an apology for the inconvenience. "We will forward the request to the state board in Pune and we apologise to the parents and students for the inconvenience caused," read a letter issued by Pande.

On Thursday, board chairperson Gangadhar Mhamane had told dna that an inquiry will be conducted and action will be initiated against the firm responsible for the process.
