The season of joy just got more cheerful with 'Spreading Smiles', an endeavour of Anushka Basantani to reach out to the lesser fortunate. A teacher by profession, Basantani had initiated the campaign by bringing together a group of around 150 people with the aim of spreading happiness. Her team is currently supporting 10 NGOs in the suburbs.

This Christmas, Team Spreading Smiles, or TSS, as they are popularly known, have come up with 'Christmas Cheers', where activities like making artificial snow and goodie boxes to putting up Christmas trees are planned throughout the month. Tamana Chawla, Member, TSS, says, "We started working on the Christmas event three weeks ago. We had asked NGOs to give us their wish lists, which our (private) Santa will fulfil. Once we received the lists, we informed everyone on our team and members offered to contribute the amount they wished to. Then, we split the shopping lists amongst ourselves and sourced the goodies at the best rates."

Girish Nair, Founder and Chairman, Access Life, an NGO supported by TSS, shares, "The best part is that these women also involve their children in the campaign, thus ensuring that the future generation too learns to do their bit. They bring their kids along at the patient care centre and organise fun activities involving both sets of kids." Basantani adds, "We believe that charity can be done by every other person but sharing time and joy, giving attention and making someone feel special are traits that are rare in today's times."
