The state assembly witnessed pandemonium over the alleged insult to Tricolour by an Opposition MLA, which resulted in the House being adjourned twice. Speaker Haribhau Bagade announced that he would watch the clip before announcing his verdict on the issue on Wednesday.

It was after BJP MLA Ashish Shelar raised the issue and said that a video clip is in circulation showing NCP member Jitendra Avhad holding the Tricolour in an "insulting" manner. When Shelar made this allegation and demanded action against Avhad, Opposition members objected to it and there was heated exchanges across the treasury benches and the Opposition.

Shelar argued that an AIMIM member had said that he would not utter Bharat Mata Ki Jai when the House was not adjourned and yet the entire House pressed for his suspension. He said that if Avhad was seen insulting the national flag, the Chair should take action against him. When leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil alleged that treasury benches were trying to politicise the issue, MLAs from the BJP and the Shiv Sena objected to it and shouted slogans condemning Avhad. The speaker adjourned the House for 10 minutes.

Minister for parliamentary affairs Girish Bapat, soon after resumption, said, "Let the speaker watch the clip along with group leaders of all parties and then take a call."

Vikhe Patil said that even prime minister Narendra Modi had inadvertently started walking away before the National Anthem could start and that we should not politicise such issues. NCP group leader Jayant Patil said that if at all any member of the House has captured the video in his mobile phone, inquiry should be conducted of that member. He added that the clip should be considered authentic only if it is captured by the official camera put up by the government.
