A 28-year-old housewife has accused her garment trader husband and her in-laws of physically and mentally torturing her. She has alleged that her husband had sent her nude and semi-nude photographs to his friends on their cellphones.
The woman's parents stay in Gamdevi and her in-laws and husband stays in a flat in Colaba.
According to assistant commissioner of police, Colaba division, Padmakar Juikar, the complainant has alleged that she got married in 2009 and since then her husband and in-laws have been demanding money from her. "She further alleged that in the event of non-payment of money, she was subjected to mental and physical harassment by her in-laws since 2009 till date," Juikar said.
"The woman said that her husband had taken her nude and semi-nude photos and had sent them to his friends. She has named his parents and sister in the complaint," said Senior Inspector Rameshwar Supale of Colaba police station. He added that the case was registered on March 27 by the woman at Gamdevi police station and was later transferred to the Colaba police for further investigations.
The police have registered a case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and section 67 of the Information Technology Act for publishing of information which is obscene in electronic form.
"The case is in the preliminary stage of investigation. We would soon be calling victim's husband and her in-laws for recording their statement with us. In the course of investigation we would also seize the mobile phone and other electronic devices that were used to commit the alleged offence," said Supale.
