South Mumbai students prep civic kids for college

The sessions are conducted for students in ISME (Indian School of Management and Entrepreneurship and on last day it will be held at K.C. Auditorium.

Around 200 students from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools received lessons in personality development and confidence-building, to prepare them for college admissions, from the Rotary Club of HR College and Rotary Club of Bombay through their project called Echo.

Seventy-five students from the Rotary Club of HR College including members of the Rotary Club of Bombay are preparing children from BMC schools who just finished giving their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) board examination to enter renowned colleges like HR, KC and Jai Hind.

Nimit Kamdar, Rotarian from HR College, said, "We are giving them workshops like gender sensitivity, self-defence for both girls and boys. We provide them all sorts of information like which college provides what courses. The workshop is conducted in order to remove the misunderstanding that they can never aspire to get into elite colleges. "

The sessions are conducted for students in ISME (Indian School of Management and Entrepreneurship and on last day it will be held at K.C. Auditorium. The students are also provided with breakfast, lunch and evening snacks. It starts from morning 8 am till evening 6 pm. The Echo was initially started by Rotarian Freyaz Shroff and is now headed by Shroff and Rashna Cooper.

Saneel Jhaveri, another Rotarian from HR College, said, "We are providing the municipal school students college start-up kit that includes notebooks, pen, pencil, calculator and everything that a student needs to go to college. Apart from that, for the first time this year, we will provide scholarships to the students scoring more than 70 per cent in SSC board exam through one of the organization."
