Four of the five girls who are students of a private school in south Mumbai have been successfully traced by the police team after they were allegedly reported missing for more than 25 hours.

The girls who are students of Class VIII and are friends went missing after their regular classes in school on Friday noon. A seach operation was initiated by the cops and after 28 hours, the police team spotted four of them at Kurla station on Saturday evening.

Police authorities have claimed that the threat still looms as one girl is still missing and to trace her immediately, the police teams have intensified their probe. As per the statements of the the other girls, their other friend managed to call a relative from a cell phone of someone else on Saturday morning. Saying that she was going to house of one of her relatives, the girl left her group and since then her traces have not been found. This has added more suspicion to the case as the parents of the missing girl have not confirmed that any of their relatives has the custody of the girl.

According to the Colaba police, out of the five girls 1 hails from Cuffe Parade, 1 is a resident of Colaba, 1 is from Crawford Market and the others were Sunder Nagar residents. On probing the school authorities, the police came to know that the girls who are students of Std 8 were shown their mid term results recently in which all the girls had failed in some subjects and for the time being, the girls informed their kins that they have passed in all subjects. On Friday, the school had organized an open day for all parents where they were shown the mid term results of their children where all the girls were confronted by their parents and also by their class teachers. To avoid strict actions from parents at home, the girls allegedly skipped their regular classes and stepped outside to spend some time. As they were not to be found till late evening, the parents then lodged a complaint in Colaba police station on Friday night.

"CCTV footage reveals that the girls had first walked toward Air India main office in Nariman Point after which they headed to Marine Plaza and hired a cab towards Hanging garden. They were roaming around the south Mumbai vicinity for a while and hired about 2-3 taxi's for the same. Then they went to Dadar station from where they took a train to Thane and they repeated the same trip to Dadar from Thane. We believe that the girls must have spent their night near Mahim church on a bench nearby. On Saturday evening, a police constable from Cuff Parade and his relatives spotted four girls after which he informed the higher authorities and later all the four girls were bought safely at Colaba police station." said a police officer of the Colaba Police station.

"It was an intensive search for the girls because firstly all were juvenile and all were missing together which made us to probe the case from all possible angles. Secondly, the girls were not having a mobile phone as it is not allowed to use in schools, this made the case more tedious and the entire search was based on CCTV footage, statements of the cab drivers and school authorities. They all wanted to escape scoldings from their parents regarding their poor performances in examinations so they thought of getting away from them by not going home." the officer added.
