Friday's swearing-in ceremony seems to have set the cash registers ringing at all the top hotels in south Mumbai, with almost all of them — right from two-star to five-star ones — being completely booked. The high-end rooms have been the most sought-after, followed by the standard ones.
Besides hotels, even guest houses are fully booked.
All minsters from prime minister Narendra Modi's cabinet, chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, as well as BJP party presidents from all over India will take part in the ceremony. Even most of the MLAs are said to be keen to witness the event. Almost all chief ministers are said to have booked rooms in leading five-star hotels as state guest house Sahyadri is full.
South Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace and Towers, the Oberoi, Taj President, Marine Plaza, Intercontinental Marine Drive, and the Ambassador, to name a few, are completely booked. Also, the guest houses located in Colaba, Churchgate, Cuffe Parade, Fort, Museum and surrounding areas too are completely sold out. Many PWD guest houses are also full.
General manager of Marine Plaza hotel Sanjeev Shekhar said, "There was a huge demand for high-end rooms, such as the presidential suite and executive suites, all these were booked on priority basis. And even now, we are getting inquiries for suites, but none are available. All our rooms too are sold out."
"This is a historic event; so many people want to witness it. There are many party workers who are known to me personally, from other states; they are in Mumbai but unable to get rooms. I am accommodating them in my house and have put up some of them at my friends' houses," said BJP corporator Gyanmurti Sharma.
