South Mumbai boy cries rape; no evidence, say cops

A 13-year-old boy from a reputed south Mumbai school says he was sexually assaulted by a masked man inside his school.

Parents of the Class 8 student say a man dragged their son to an empty classroom during recess on January 11, 13, and 15, and assaulted.

Cuffe Parade police have registered a case of rape.

Police say the boy told his parents about the alleged incident on January 16, who then lodged a complaint. Primary investigation did not reveal any evidence to corroborate the victim’s claims. 

“We started the investigation immediately, however we did not find any evidence. We have scrutinised CCTV footage of the school and of the areas he mentioned, but there is no masked man there,” said a police officer, adding, “We also conducted the medical examination of the victim and there were no signs of assault. A probe is on to ascertain why did the boy’s claims are not matching with evidence. We are also ascertaining whether there is a hidden story behind the claims.”
