Information and updates on the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz underground Metro rail will now be made available on social media.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) will be appointing a private agency to keep the public abreast about the latest on the Metro.

These updates will be shared on varied social media platforms. "Even queries and comments of citizens on these micro-blogging websites will be responded to to make the MMRC and the problem-solving more public friendly," said an MMRC official.

An agency is likely to be appointed later this month on May 26. It will have to "provide time-to-time recommendation to MMRC on relevant content and posts to be updated on social media platforms", as per the document on social media plan.

"The idea is to be more people-friendly and clear all possible doubts in as less time as possible online itself," said an official involved in the planning of the Rs23,136-crore project.

In the last six months, the 33.5km-long corridor has faced criticism from various quarters of the society over it's proposed alignment.

There has been opposition from environment lovers to setting up of a car depot at Aarey Milk Colony, apart from residents of Girgaum and Kalbadevi coming out on the streets, demanding clarity and transparency over the rehabilitation plan. Cuffe Parade residents too are against the plan to construct Colaba station on a portion of the Colaba Woods garden.

Tendering process of the project is still underway and construction is likely to commence only during the first half of 2016.
