Soon, BMC to roll out new online parking app

Soon, Mumbaikars will be able to book parking lot spaces online using a mobile app. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has almost finalised the tenders which will be floated soon.

At present, officials from A ward, where the online system will start, are going through it.

“The tender documents for the mobile app for booking space in parking lots have already been prepared. We are going through it to check if any changes are required,” said a senior civic official, adding that the tender to hire a software company to develop the mobile app as per BMC’s requirement will be floated soon.

The mobile app will be similar to ticket-booking apps, and this will help citizens check the availability of space in parking lots in a couple of seconds. “It is very difficult to find parking space in Mumbai especially during office hours,” the official said.  

Now motorists can check for available slots, book and then go there to park their vehicles, he said ruling out the possibility of having to drive around looking for a space to park.

According to another civic official, the app will be helpful as the user can book available parking space at any time for more than an hour and even make payments online.

Initially, the civic body will provide parking through online booking at 12 South Mumbai parking lots and later look other areas of the city to implement the same.
