On Thursday industries minister, Prakash Mehta, ensured that Cidco and MHADA would formulate a policy to provide Marathi medium schools on lands owned by them. This is a move to encourage Marathi medium schools within the city. Those staying in Cidco areas will be benefited if this policy comes into place. This announcement was made during the winter session of the Maharshtra assembly in Nagpur.

"I will discuss this issue with the education department as well and implement this policy soon, we will ensure that a decision is taken to help Marathi medium schools to gain prominence," said Mehta after a question was raised by MLA, teachers constituency, Ramnath Mote on Thursday.

Mote said, "Since last eight years, we have been trying to gain reservations for Marathi medium schools in Cidco and MHADA areas, but we never received a positive response. This will be beneficial not only for those within Cidco areas, but will also encourage standard Marathi medium schools to expand. Also, it was becoming difficult to find plots within urban areas for these schools and hence this is a crucial decision," added Mote.

According to Anil Bornare, chairman, teachers association, there are many children from economically poor background who will benefit from this move. The reserved seats will help schools and other institutes to find land at lower prices and this will help them to reduce fees and give better facilities to the students, thus increasing the level of education. "Not only schools, the plots reserved for educational purposes can be used for diploma and degree courses or even to set up medical colleges. It will increase the scope for students living in these areas and improve the standard of education for those belonging to the Marathi medium schools. We had also demanded for a special quota for teachers in the Cidco housing schemes, but are awaiting for the response," Bornare added.

After umpteen attempts to develop Maharshtra's standard educational institutes and also working towards making available land in urban areas to start more educational prospects along with the progress of Marathi medium schools, this decision has been a sigh of relief for many educationists.
