Despite a month having passed since Ojas Shah, co-owner of a famous departmental store in south Mumbai allegedly committed suicide at Worli seaface, the police are still verifying the contents of his suicide note. The note said that Shah was forced to end his life because of the treatment meted out to him and his family. However, the police are yet to make an arrest.

In the note, Shah had alleged that his elder brother Ashwin and his wife Deepika wanted to take over the flat in which they had been living together. The note said that he was assaulted by Ashwin and his children and that he had complained to the police regarding this several times. Shah also mentioned that his sister-in-law had threatened him that she would book him for molestation.

The Shahs lived in a joint family at Anand Niwas on D Road in Churchgate. The Worli police had registered a case of abetment to suicide against Ashwin, Deepika and their two sons. However, no arrests were made. "There was a property dispute going on and there were problems between the brothers," said an officer from Worli police station.

"We have not made any arrest yet as we are still verifying content of the suicide note. There are mentions of Shah approaching the police earlier too with a complaint against his brother," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone III, S Jaykumar. He added, "Once we have done the verification we will take necessary action."

Shah was found dead in his car at Worli seaface on November 13. He had allegedly left his home on the night of November 12, but did not return home till late night. His wife then called up his friend Manish Chedda who began searching for Shah and spotted his body in his car at Worli seaface. Police recovered a suicide note and a bottle allegedly containing poison from Shah's car.
