The MRA Marg police have solved a Rs15 lakh theft case by arresting two persons with the help of a sniffer dog. After the crime was reported, the dog led the cops to a den of drug addicts. Upon questioning them, the police managed to nab the culprits involved in the theft.

According to the police, the theft was reported in the office of Eastern Trading and Engineering Company on Mint Road in Fort area during the early hours of July 4. "The accused had gained entry by breaking the shutter. A screwdriver was found from the spot. Investigations confirmed that the screwdriver did not belong to any employee of the company. We then pressed Heena (a Doberman) into service. She traced the accused to Mastan adda area in Ballard Pier, where drug addicts frequent at night," said an officer from the MRA Marg police station.

Following Heena, the police questioned a few addicts and got a tip-off that Shabbir Abbas, 30, who was once arrested by the MRA Marg police in a theft case, was found loitering in the area when the theft occurred. Earlier, Abbas used to live in a slum on P D'Mello Road but had later shifted to Mankhurd.

"We picked up Abbas, who initially denied his involvement but later admitted to having committed the theft with his accomplice Sharif Aslam Pathan, 32. We then arrested Pathan and recovered cash worth Rs12.55 lakh from their possession," the officer said.
